DT031
Sensor Sheet
Type:
Angular Position
|
Range: 0 - 340 Deg. |
Sensor Description:
The DT031 is a sensor designed to measure changes in
angular positions of items connected to its handle. The DT031 consists of a hexagonal
handle with a connection screw (for comfortable connection of items), the base
of the sensor, and a 20cm connection cable.
How it works:
The DT031 is a free-spinning, low friction potentiometer,
with and angular range of 0°-360°. When the handle of the sensor turns, the
output of the sensor ranges from 0-5 Volts, a voltage accepted by the
analog-digital converter of the Data-Logger. The sensor's output increases as
the handle is turned counter-clockwise. Note that the Data-Logger does not
recognize the DT031, and the results will be recorded in Volts with 0V being
equal to 0° and 5V being equal to 360°. To define the DT031 as an angular
position sensor, you have to enter the proper calibration values in the Define
Custom Sensors dialog box. For further documentation of defining custom sensors
please refer to the DB-Lab section of your Data-Logger manual.
Calibration:
The DT001 ships fully calibrated. No further calibration is
needed.
What is it used for:
The DT031 is used in various experiments in Biology and Physics. In Biology,
the DT031 is used to measure plant growth and changes in the bending of plants
towards light. In Physics, the DT031 is used for measurements of pendulum
movement and the exploration of Newton's Crib.
